App development for businesses on iOS and Android
Thirdlinks builds apps for businesses and founders in Oslo and across Norway. We take your app from the first sketch to release in the App Store and Google Play, and can keep it updated and develop it further afterwards.
An app makes sense when customers or staff use the solution often, especially on the move. It sits on the home screen, can send notifications and can use the camera and location.
You do not always need an app. A website or web app that works well on a phone can often do the same job for less. We will tell you if that is the case when we map your needs.
When an app is the right choice, we often build it from one shared codebase for iOS and Android. You avoid paying for two separate apps, and new features reach both platforms at the same time.
When does it pay to build an app?
- Your customers use your service often and want it on their phones.
- Your staff work in the field and need a tool on their phones.
- You want to send notifications when something happens, such as a new order.
- The solution needs the camera or location, or has to work without a signal.
- You have an idea for a digital service and want to test it with real users.
What do you get when we build your app?
Design and prototype
Screens and a clickable prototype in Figma, so you can try the app before we build it.
One app for iOS and Android
An app that works on both iPhone and Android phones, with the same features on each.
Logins and users
Secure sign-in, user profiles and roles, so each user only sees what they should.
Notifications
Push notifications when something happens, for example a new message or a changed appointment.
Backend and connections to your systems
We build the service your app gets its data from, and connect it to systems you use today where they have an API.
Release in the App Store and Google Play
We prepare the app and submit it for review by Apple and Google. We recommend publishing it under your business’s own developer account.
Who do we build apps for?
- Businesses that want to give customers an app for orders, bookings or memberships
- Businesses with field staff who need a tool on their phones
- Businesses with an existing system that want to give users access from their phones
- Founders who want to build a first version of an app and test it with users
How do we develop an app?
Step 1: We map your needs
We start with who will use the app, what they need to get done and whether an app is the right choice.
Step 2: We design and test a prototype
You get screens and a prototype to try on your phone and show to users, before we write any code.
Step 3: We build in small steps
We build what matters most first. You get test builds on your phone along the way, so we can adjust early.
Step 4: We release and follow up
We test on iOS and Android, submit the app to the App Store and Google Play and keep it updated after launch.
Questions about app development
Do I need an app, or is a website enough?
It depends on how often people will use it, and whether they need notifications, the camera or offline access. Many needs can be met with a website or web app that works well on a phone. We give you a recommendation when we map your needs.
Do you build apps for both iOS and Android?
Yes. We often build one app from shared code that runs on both iPhone and Android. That is less work than two separate apps, and both get new features at the same time.
How long does it take to build an app?
It depends on how many features the app needs. A first version with the essentials is quicker than a complete app. Apple and Google also review the app before it is published. You get a timeline together with the quote.
What affects the price of an app?
The number of screens and features, logins, notifications, payments and connections to other systems. You get a written quote with scope and price after we map your needs. Starting with a smaller first version is often a good idea.
Who owns the app?
Once paid in full, you get the agreed rights to use the app. What is included is set out in the quote. We recommend publishing the app under your business’s own developer accounts with Apple and Google.
What happens after launch?
Apple and Google release new versions of iOS and Android and change their store requirements, so an app needs regular updates. Under a maintenance agreement we keep your app up to date and fix issues. We build new features when you need them.
Have an idea for an app?
Tell us what the app should do and who will use it, and we will look at whether an app is the right choice and what it would cost.
